After this draw, PSG is ranked 2nd in Group F with 7 points, 2 points ahead of Newcastle and AC Milan. Dortmund won a ticket to continue in the group of death one round early. They won 3-1 at AC Milan’s field in this match. The German team has 10 points, 5 points more than third-placed team Newcastle with only one round left in the group stage. Entering the match against Newcastle, PSG fielded its strongest squad with the attacking quartet of Mbappe, Lee Kang In, Dembele, and Muani. On the other side of the front line, Newcastle played with the attacking trio Almiron, Isak, and Gordon.

In the 24th minute, Livramento dribbled the ball around the PSG defenders before passing the ball to Almiron. The Paraguayan player’s shot was blocked by goalkeeper Donnarumma, but Isak was in the right place to score the opening goal for Newcastle. After conceding a goal, PSG was forced to push the team up in search of a goal. However, on a sublime day, goalkeeper Nick Pope denied Mbappe and Dembele scoring opportunities.

In the second half, coach Luis Enrique continuously made personnel adjustments but could not help PSG create a breakthrough. PSG’s strikers showed signs of being impatient and could not take advantage of opportunities. It was thought that the match would end with a victory for Newcastle, but the turning point in the match took place in the 90+8 minute. The ball touched Livramento’s hand and the referee awarded PSG a penalty. On the 11m mark, Mbappe excellently scored to level the score 1-1.

However, the situation where the referee awarded PSG a penalty created great controversy. Newcastle said he touched Livramento’s chest and then jumped into his hand. Therefore, according to FIFA rules, the referee cannot award a penalty to a Newcastle player.
