Cincinnati Reds’ Former Rookie of the Year Suffers Injury to Foot, Out Multiple Weeks

Jonathan India, the previous Rookie of the Year for the Cincinnati Reds, will be sidelined for many weeks due to a foot ailment.

Jonathan India, an infielder for the Cincinnati Reds, has been out for many weeks due to a recurrence of a foot ailment.

In accordance with Cincinnati Enquirer Charlie Goldsmith:

Jonathan India (foot) won’t participate in spring games until roughly March 7 or 8, according to David Bell. He is not allowed to re-injure it due to the injury. However, they are gradually resuming the advancement within a regulated workload. He’ll be working on projects similar to live BPs, where they get to run the base.

This seems to be a trigger for plantar fasciitis, an injury that has been treated in the past in India.

Although the 27-year-old Indian team took home the Rookie of the Year title in 2021, they have not performed as well in the years since. In 2021, he hit.269 with 21 home runs and a.376 on-base percentage. In 103 games in 2022, he batted.249 with 10 home runs. He participated in 119 games in 2023, batting.244 with an on-base percentage of.338. He hit 17 home runs.

Given the Reds’ abundance of infielders this season, he should play more of a utility role. Elly De La Cruz, Matt McLain, Spencer Steer, and Jeimer Candelario are already on the squad, thus India may see some time in addition to his usual second base position at first base or left field.

The Reds will be a popular choice to make the playoffs this year because of all that fresh talent among the position players. Since the 2020 season was cut short due to COVID-19, Cincinnati has not made it past the first round of the playoffs, losing to the Atlanta Braves.
