‘NEEDS to improve’ and ‘is not at his best’

Mauricio Pochettino fires a warning at one of his Chelsea stars – insisting he ‘NEEDS to improve’ and ‘is not at his best’ – as he reveals why he took him off during their 2-2 draw with Arsenal

Stamford Bridge first-team player Mauricio Pochettino has issued the following warning to one of his stars: “That player ‘needs to develop’ in order to remain in the first team.

On Saturday in west London, Chelsea relinquished a two-goal lead to earn a 2-2 draw with title contenders Arsenal. Arsenal earned a crucial point on the road thanks to second-half goals from Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard.

The struggling Blues would have climbed to ninth in the league and been within six points of the top four with a victory, considering West Ham’s loss at Aston Villa on Sunday.

However, despite providing the second goal for Chelsea, Mykhailo Mudryk was substituted for Nicolas Jackson in the middle of the second half, and Pochettino stated after the match that his offensive influence “needs to improve.”

Since his £88 million transfer to west London, Mudryk has struggled to illuminate Stamford Bridge, and Pochettino is adamant that the Ukrainian can produce more for his side.

Pochettino was referring to Mykhailo Mudryk, who's struggled since his £88m Chelsea move

Since his £88 million transfer to Chelsea, Mykhailo Mudryk has struggled, as mentioned by Pochettino.

When queried whether Mudryk was substituted due to “running out of gas,” Pochettino responded succinctly in the post-match press conference.

“No,” replied the Argentine. “He performed admirably, but he has room for improvement.” He is not, in my opinion, at his peak.

“With Jackson in the lead, I believe we needed to make a change to add a little bit more pressure.”

“We created a few opportunities in that situation, and the score was closer to 3-0 than 2-1.”

He went on to admit that Chelsea’s draw felt more like two points dropped rather than a point gained

Prior to Chelsea’s two concessions, Mudryk was substituted for Nicolas Jackson (left), a forward for the hosts.

“I believe we dropped two points,” the Argentine commented to the BBC. “We are disappointed, but the analysis and judgment of the game cannot be altered.”Last season, we were extremely competitive against a very strong team vying for the Premier League. Our group is young, and our level of competition deserves much praise. However, we are disheartened because we conceded the opening goal after 77 minutes, when I believe we should have been in a much stronger position.

Our team was performing admirably and exerting dominance over the game. However, there is a drawback to conceding. Although we are disappointed, we must find the bright side.
