Nicolas Jackson in Villarreal’s dressing room

Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson makes sʜᴏᴄᴋ return to Villarreal dressing room less than 24 hours after terrible showing in the Blues’ 4-1 defeat at Newcastle

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson made a sʜᴏᴄᴋ return to Villarreal’s dressing room less than 24 hours after the Blues’ 4-1 defeat at Newcastle.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Jackson was among a number of Chelsea players who performed poorly during their crushing loss at St. James’ Park on Saturday, leaving the west London team stuck in 10th place in the Premier League standings. The 22-year-old didn’t seem to stay upset about the outcome, though, as he was seen returning to El Madrigal for Villarreal’s La Liga match against Osasuna the next day. Jose Luis Morales scored all three goals as the Yellow Submarine defeated the opposition 3-1 in front of a boisterous home crowd. Jackson was present to congratulate Morales on his hat-trick victory following the match.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Jackson ended his two-season tenure at El Madrigal when he signed a £30 million ($38 million) contract to join Chelsea back in July. The Senegal international has battled with consistency in his first six months at Stamford Bridge, scoring just 13 goals in 47 outings for the Spanish team. Jackson has now scored seven goals for the Blues this season, but he has drawn criticism for his inconsistent finishing after three of his goals came in a wild derby match against Tottenham.

WHAT NEXT FOR JACKSON?

It is unclear if Jackson received OK from Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino to rejoin Villarreal after his team’s dismal performance against Newcastle. When the Blues play Brighton at home to begin their December schedule, Jackson should be back in the running for a spot in the Argentine starting lineup.
