Reportedly, in January, Chelsea will “recall Andrey Santos” from Nottingham Forest, where he spent the summer on loan.
Despite joining Steve Cooper’s squad in August, the 19-year-old has only played in two Premier League games thus far: a 1-0 loss to Burnley in the EFL Cup in August and a seven-minute substitute cameo in October’s 3-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino reportedly has the option to “end Santos’ loan early by triggering a break clause in his contract” and “will recall the defensive midfielder in January.”
Strasburg is reportedly interested in loaning Santos out for the remainder of the season, according to the source.
After attracting interest from other major clubs across Europe, Santos was purchased by Chelsea from Vasco de Gama, a Brazilian club, for £18 million earlier this summer.
According to rumors, Chelsea had offered him to Forest as a trade for Brennan Johnson, but he promptly accepted and went on loan.
The Blues have reportedly not yet informed Cooper’s camp of their intention to re-sign him, as reported by The Athletic.
In a conversation with Chelsea, the Forest manager allegedly promised Santos additional playing time, as stated in the same source.
Since Pochettino’s squad has already reached their maximum capacity for players out on foreign loan deals, the 19-year-old may have to seek for a domestic loan if he decides to return to Chelsea. He has already made his senior team debut for Brazil.
On Saturday, Forest will face Everton in their Premier League return, and on Sunday, Chelsea will face Brighton in an attempt to recover from Sunday’s 4-1 loss to Newcastle.
