Out of patience at Mudryl, Chelsea told to make ‘century’s bid’ for ‘Drogba’s heir’

Chelsea’s lack of finishing ability in front of goal was on display again on Tuesday night when they played Liverpool at Stamford Bridge and drew 0-0.

This season, Chelsea has only scored 29 goals in the Premier League. This is the fewest goals they have scored at this point in a league season since 1979.

Osimhen, on the other hand, is likely to be one of the most sought-after players this summer. He has scored 25 goals in 29 games for Napoli this season. The Nigerian player is on Manchester United’s shortlist. Erik ten Hag wants to add a new striker to his team during the next transfer window.

Hoddle thinks that Osimhen is the only player Chelsea needs to get this summer.

Hoddle told Premier League Productions, “They do need a No. 9 and they do need someone who can score goals.” “But I’ll tell you what: whoever comes in as the new manager for this team, and normally you’d sαy that a new manager will want to bring in some of his own players, I think he only needs a No. 9; I think everything else is there.”

“You need someone you think is going to score 20 goals for you, a fox in the box, someone who wants to be in that area where they’re making so much.”

“But I think that’s the only player they need. They already have everyone else.”

“The ones they move out so they can have a more balanced team, since they have so many players, are the ones that matter. That’s where you put your energy.” Any manager who walks in and sαys, “We don’t have any good players, I need to bring in five,” they’re already there.

“You have two goalkeepers, the back players are strong and good enough, your midfield is good, but you might want to strengthen one spot if you keep Joao Felix… I think that if you want to be the new manager of Chelsea, all you need is a No. 9.

“I’d like to know how many clear and good chances they’ve had this season. I bet it’s more than most teams or right up there with the best teams. What’s hurting them is how often they score.”

I’m looking at Kai Havertz, and he’s not a No. 9. He wants to float and drop off, which is fine. When Liverpool were at their best, Roberto Firmino was coming towards the ball, and Mane and Salah ended up as center-forwards. In the past, this has happened with some other teams, where a striker comes off to get the ball and other players run into the box from midfield. The balance just needs to be tweaked a little bit.

“Right now, I think the quality of Chelsea’s players means that they need a No. 9, someone who wants to get in the box. Too often, you don’t see that from Chelsea because there’s either no one in the box or just one person.

“They have players who can start plays, so if you’re a striker and you join that club, you’d like your chances.”

When asked if Osimhen could solve Chelsea’s problems, Hoddle said, “Without a doubt, he’s number one, but a few clubs are after him.”

“But if you put him in a Chelsea shirt, he will score a lot of goals.” Hoddle also thinks that Thomas Tuchel would still be at Chelsea if the club’s leaders had kept him there.

“There have been a lot of fired managers, but Tuchel’s firing sυrprised me the most,” Hoddle said.

“I’m sorry, but it was a bad choice for Chelsea, there’s no doubt about it.

“You have to look at what he did in a short amount of time. He got them to win the Champions League. That was the foundation for reαl success, and now they’re trying to buy a lot of players to get there. It would have been great to give that money to Tuchel and let him go buy what he wants.

“He might have gotten the most out of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but now Aubameyang is going to work with Thomas Tuchel, and he’s gone.” So we don’t know [if it would have worked], because it’s hypothetical now, but he thought, “I got the best out of him at Dortmund, and I’ll do it again.” But that fell apart, that went away, and there have been a lot of problems with this finisher that Chelsea needs.”
