Following a scathing remark about Manchester City’s uniforms by Facundo Pellistri, Pep Guardiola said he would talk to Puma.
This weekend’s Manchester derby is much-awaited, with Erik ten Hag trying to win the Premier League for the third time in a row.
Even though the two teams are in the same city, United is everywhere. It’s calm, but clearly more United shirts are showing up because the derby is coming up and everyone wants to flaunt [their colors]. It’s all United, as I mentioned.
There are no City shirts or flags in sight. We go out and say, “Let’s try to find one,” sometimes with my partner or my family, and we don’t see them.
“City fills the stadium; they have a large fan base, but we live in the same city, and all that is visible in the city is United’s uniforms.”
When Pellistri’s remarks were brought up at Friday’s pre-game news conference, City manager Guardiola dismissed them with a joke, implying he would speak with the team’s shirt maker, Puma.
Guardiola responded, “I think it is very strange for an individual to go around the city center looking for another team’s jersey,” when questioned about Pellistri’s remarks. Very peculiar, huh?
“I’ll talk to the Puma department to find out what went wrong and why there aren’t any shirts.”
It’s alright. It’s okay if this guy and his girlfriend think that.
Guardiola smirked and joked, “Are you saying it’s not serious what Pellistri said?” as the reporter changed the subject to a “more serious question.”
When asked what kind of rivalry existed between the two teams, the Spaniard responded, “It’s a good rivalry.” I believe that each club is respected, which is why nothing major has happened in my eight seasons here.
