Marseille striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has become the Europa League’s all-time leading goalscorer after scoring against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Aubameyang set a new record by scoring his 31st goal in the Europa League against Donetsk on Thursday. He was tied with Radamel Falcao on 30 goals, but has now surpassed the former Manchester United star. Of course, the record only dates back until 2009, when the UEFA Cup was rebranded. He is, nevertheless, level with the UEFA Cup’s leading goalscorer, Sweden legend Henrik Larsson.

Aubameyang scored goals in the Europa League for a variety of clubs. He has scored 14 goals for Arsenal, eight for Borussia Dortmund, two for Barcelona, and currently seven for Marseille. His goal on Thursday led the Ligue 1 club to a 3-1 win and a 5-3 aggregate victory.

 

 

 

Following their Europa League match against Shakhtar, Marseille will face Montpellier in Ligue 1 on Sunday. They are presently ranked ninth in the league table.’
