Rangers get reliever Daniel Duarte for cash in trade with Reds

Right-handed reliever Daniel Duarte was acquired by the Texas Rangers from the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday in exchange for cash.

During the previous season, Duarte made 31 appearances across five stints, going 3-0 with a 3.69 ERA. When the Reds and free agent pitcher Brent Suter agreed to a $3 million, one-year deal on Saturday, the 27-year-old was designated for assignment.

While on Cincinnati’s Opening Day roster in 2022, Duarte had just three appearances after being originally signed by the Rangers out of Mexico in 2013. He ended 2023 on the disabled list because to a shoulder problem, and he missed the majority of that season due to an elbow ailment.

After making his major league debut in the Texas organization in 2015, Duarte spent the previous season splitting time between Triple-A Louisville and Cincinnati. In the lower leagues, he was 4-0 with a 3.34 ERA.

Additionally, Texas granted right-hander José Ureña a minor league deal and extended an invitation to the pitcher for major league spring training. The 32-year-old’s nine major league seasons included ten starts with the Colorado Rockies and the Chicago White Sox in the previous campaign.
