Following the MLS club’s successful negotiations to recruit the Uruguayan from Gremio, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez will be rejoining each other at Inter Miami.
According to ESPN, a one-year deal with a one-year option has been agreed upon and is anticipated to be finalized shortly. Midway through a two-year contract, Suarez leaves Porto Alegre, acknowledging that the physical demands of playing professional football in South America were wearing him down.
During their six seasons together at Barcelona, Suarez and Messi developed a strong friendship and an incredible on-field combination before the Uruguayan was judged unnecessary. Suarez made a fantastic return to his original club Nacional, where he won the Uruguayan championship before leaving for Brazil, after leading Atletico Madrid to the league title.
Early this week, there were rumors of a reunion between him and his old friend and former Camp Nou coworkers Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. As of right now, it seems to be just a formality until the move is finished.
Messi, who won his eighth Ballon d’Or earlier this week, is relaxing, but his old friend still needs to work hard in the Brazilian Serie A when fourth-place Gremio takes on Bahia on Saturday.
