Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk’s Netherlands emerged victorious against Kostas Tsimikas’ Greece.

In a match where three first-half goals proved decisive, the Netherlands secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Greece on Thursday. Cody Gakpo played for 65 minutes and contributed with the second goal of the night, while Virgil van Dijk captained the team and played the full 90 minutes. Kostas Tsimikas featured for the entire game for Greece.

Both teams now have 6 points in group B, trailing behind the leaders, France. However, Greece has played one more match and is also two goals behind in goal difference.

Republic of Ireland sits in the fourth position in the group, and Caoimhin Kelleher was an unused substitute as his team suffered a 2-0 defeat against France.

 

In another match, Dominik Szoboszlai led Hungary to a remarkable 2-1 comeback win against Serbia. Hungary bounced back from an early own goal, scoring two goals in quick succession in the 34th and 36th minutes. This victory propelled Hungary to the top of group G with 10 points, giving them a three-point lead over Serbia.

On Friday, Brazil will host Bolivia for the first round of CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying. In Euros qualifying, Scotland, led by Andy Robertson, will face Cyprus, while Diogo Jota and Portugal take on Slovakia.
