Referee Scott Foster and Warriors guard Chris Paul got into a heated altҽrcation in the second quarter, leading to Paul’s ejection

What was that last thing we saw?

In what was arguably the most frantic game of the 2023–24 NBA season, the Golden State Warriors fell to the Phoenix Suns 123–115 on Wednesday night. This is especially noteworthy given that the Warriors had previously experienced a game this season in which numerous players were removed prior to the scoring of a point.

Even though it wasn’t their first heated altercation, referee Scott Foster dismissed Warriors guard Chris Paul in the second quarter following a heated back-and-forth. The Warriors’ bench had a number of strong runs, but the team ultimately lost due to terrible play by its key players.

Curry shot 1-for-8 from beyond the arc and finished with 16 points in what was likely his worst regular season effort. It appears that Andrew Wiggins has likewise returned to the lackluster play that has characterized his season so far. Wiggins went back to being a supporting cast member after missing all three of his field goal attempts. The shooting of Klay Thompson was a lone bright spot for the seasoned Warriors. As a team leader, Thompson scored 23 points in 25 minutes of play, including 6 for 10 from beyond the arc.

Steve Kerr, head coach of the Warriors, withdrew the starting on various occasions as the Suns established a 23-point advantage in the second half. The maneuver certainly had the appearance of strategy, even though it was probably not. The only Warriors to end with a positive plus/minus were Brandin Podziemski (+20), Cory Joseph (+12), Dario Šarić (+12), and Gui Santos (+3). With a total of 10 points, 4 boards, 2 assists, and 3 steals, Podziemski was the complete package. On nine field-goal attempts, Šarić managed to score seventeen points.

In the last second, the Warriors bench made it within three points of Phoenix’s advantage, but they were still too behind to win. The Warriors appear to be in a state of chaos as they fall to 7-9 on the year. Even if the Warriors are patiently waiting for their veteran stars to gel, there is cause for hope regarding a growing youth movement in the NBA.
