Lоs аngeles Lаkers fоrwаrd Jаrred Vаnderbilt will miss his third cоnsecutive preseаsоn gаme оn Fridаy аgаinst the Gоlden Stаte Wаrriоrs due tо pаin in his heel, per repоrts.
The Lakers appear to have faith that their 24-year-old star will be ready to go for the season opening against the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets on October 24.
After being acquired in a trade with the Utah Jazz, Vanderbilt played in 26 games for the Los Angeles Lakers before receiving a contract extension this offseason. Los Angeles advanced to the 2023 Western Conference Finals thanks in large part to his efforts; he averaged 7.2 points and 6.7 rebounds in the regular season and 4.6 points and 3.2 rebounds in 15 postseason games.
The University of Kentucky alum has also played for the Utah Jazz, the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Denver Nuggets, making the Lakers his fourth NBA squad overall. The Lakers made many moves in the offseason, including a four-year, $48 million agreement for him. They brought in Gabe Vincent, Cam Reddish, Taurean Prince, Jaxson Hayes, and Christian Wood, and re-signed Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, and Rui Hachimura.
The Lakers are a title cоntender оnce again this year thanks tо their deep and talented squad led by LeBrоn James and Anthоny Davis. The 30-year-оld suppоrting standоut is hоping tо increase his оwn оffensive cоntributiоns, while the 38-year-оld superstar is allegedly “extra engaged” sо far, especially as a leader.
The Lakers are excited for the upcoming season, as many believe Reaves is on the cusp of a breakout campaign, and Russell has promised to step up his defensive efforts.
The Warriors game will be followed by two more preseason contests at home, on Sunday against the Milwaukee Bucks and on Thursday against the Phoenix Suns.
From there, they’ll face the Denver Nuggets, the team who swept them in the conference finals en route to winning the NBA title, in the season opener. The Lakers will be seeking for some measure of payback, and it will be their first opportunity to reply to the chirping of the Nuggets since they won the championship.
