After the World Series concludes, Shohei Ohtani will be a free agent.
Ohtani, 29, is leaving the Los Angeles Angels, where he has pitched and played DH since 2018. He is now eligible for free agency.
On August 23rd, Ohtani suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. After that day, he no longer pitched.
However, Ohtani did not stop being the Angels’ DH until September 3. He was forced to end his season early due to an oblique ιnjury.
On September 19, Ohtani, a right-handed pitcher, had surgery on his right elbow. It was an operation conducted by Dr. Neal ElAttrache.
According to Dr. ElAttrache, the operation is a “procedure to reinforce the healthy ligament in place while adding viable tissue for the longevity of the elbow.”
On October 1st, 2018, Ohtani underwent Tommy John surgery in Los Angeles. That operation was likewise done by Dr. ElAttrache. In May of 2018, Ohtani came back to the Angels, but this time he was merely a batter. On July 6, 2020, he returned to action after surgery.
Ohtani has always expressed a desire to resume his career as a pitcher.
Free agent Ohtani will be used solely as a hitter until Dr. ElAttrache gives him the green light to pitch.
Ohtani is about to enter free agency, and questions remain about where he will play and how much he will be paid.
Ohtani’s оffensive numbers in 2023, when he becomes a free agent, are as follows:
