Story of Scott Mctominay life: An United lover, family, childhood and more

“When you’re a young kid, playing for United’s Under-9s, I believe it might actually be the best feeling in the world. It’s just pure fun, some of the most enjoyable times I’ve ever had when I reflect on my childhood.

For me, whether you’re a fan or a player, whenever you put on a United shirt, it feels unlike any other jersey you could ever wear. I’ve known that since I was five. Back then, I was just playing for my local team, and I got scouted to attend a few different academies. United was one of them, and I ended up going to the development centers when I was just five years old. My mom and dad took me all over, covering countless miles to nurture my passion for football, and they did it because I absolutely loved it.

I still vividly recall those car rides. I would always be goofing around, playing little games in the car. We’d challenge each other to spot the most BMWs or engage in other fun activities. We’d be singing along to Cat Stevens’ songs from those cassette tapes my dad kept in the car. I cherish those memories. It brings a smile to my face when I think about those times, wherever we were heading, traveling with my parents; it was truly incredible.

I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. My mom and dad were extraordinary, taking me all over the place. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them. It wasn’t just because I was playing for Manchester United; they would also take my sister to her athletics events. So, we have a lot to be grateful for in that regard.

Every time I don a United shirt, it still feels unique, just like it always has. Wearing the badge and representing the club, whether as a player or a supporter, holds immense meaning. This club carries tremendous significance and history. As players, we recognize that, and our primary goal is to fulfill our roles to the best of our ability, win trophies, and bring joy to the fans, which is ultimately our greatest aspiration.

However, while these are the thoughts that occupy my mind now, I always take a moment to reflect on where it all began. There are young kids out there in a similar position today who are just starting their journey, and it’s easy to get things mixed up. In football, I believe some young kids and parents, both then and now, sometimes misconstrue things. Off the pitch, it’s crucial to be responsible, but when you step onto the field, just go out there, give your best, and have fun. That’s how I did it, and I believe it’s the right way.”
