Summary of Man City players’ national team performances: Rodri’s delight; Haaland and Kovacic are in severe trouble

Stale Solbakken’s team has not scored a goal since losing to Spain in the reverse meeting in the Euro 2024 qualification group.

Erling Haaland, a Ballon d’Or favorite, struggled to make things happen and was disappointed by the lack of assistance. Norway’s hopes of qualifying for Euro 2024 are now hanging by a thread, and they must hope that Lady Luck smiles on them and grants them a lucky entry into the competition.

Rodri was excellent at controlling the speed of Spain’s game. Undaunted in possession, he repeatedly reclaimed it.

Oscar Bobb made his senior international debut for Norway, making a couple scintillating runs into the final third, but his final delivery was off.

Meanwhile, Erling Haaland was ejected from the game and subjected to physical challenges. A late effort had been saved.

Norway were severely disappointing, generating little in what was an important game for them, and will now have to hope for a chance to qualify via the Euro 2024 playoffs.

Spain tops the group, ahead of Scotland on goal difference, with both guaranteed a spot in Germany. Norway is third, five points behind with one game remaining.

Next, City’s Croatian duo Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol were let down as the World Cup semi-finalists lost 2-1 away to Wales, therefore ending their chances of competing in next summer’s Germany showpiece.

Man City duo Kovacic and Gvardiol both started but couldn’t help Croatia recover from last Thursday’s home loss to Turkey as Wales edged a tense encounter.

Finally, Manuel Akanji scored as Switzerland rallied to a 3-3 tie with Belarus in EURO 2024 qualifying.
