To break into the Chelsea starting lineup, forward Noni Madueke is taking notes on fellow wingers Mohamed Salah and Kylian Mbappe in an effort to streamline his play.
In Thursday’s 9-1 win over Serbia, the attacker scored twice for England’s Under 21 team, but Maurico Pochettino has yet to start him in a Premier League game.
James Ryder, an FA performance analyst, has been helping Madueke hone his skills in the latter third of games.
“One thing I’ve got to add to my game is the easier goals, the one-touch goals,” Madueke added.
I’m putting in a lot of time and effort into the final section. Knowing how quickly I move, there are times when I have to stop, take a deep breath, and then “slot it away.”Mbappe and Salah have been highlighted by our analyst, therefore I find myself focusing on them. It’s the way they always track back to their pass into the box, or how they’re always ready to pounce on an opportunity when a teammate enters the box.
Ashley Cole, who last week became Wayne Rooney’s assistant coach at Birmingham City in addition to his position as Lee Carsley’s No 2, has been working with the England team to improve Madueke’s final product.
When it comes to helping Madueke improve his game, Ash “takes a very personal approach,” he says. He’s always on me to improve my scoring and assisting, even if I’m great in one-on-one situations.
“I’m happy with the two goals I scored against Serbia; one was more like the goals I typically score, and the other was a one-touch finish.
It’s so much fun to come over here and show off my skills. It’s a fantastic team, on par with the prior one.
I’m confident in my skills, and I know it’s just a matter of time before everything comes together. I believe I have what it takes.
