Liverpool is reportedly considering a move for OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram, although they may face competition from a prominent European club, as stated by journalist Rudy Galetti.
Jurgen Klopp has made the acquisition of a central midfielder a top priority. Progress has been made toward signing Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch, with productive discussions occurring recently between Liverpool and the German club.
Additionally, talks have been initiated for a potential transfer of Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure. Klopp is keen to bolster his midfield options, despite the recent addition of Wataru Endo, whom Galetti believes will be a valuable addition to the squad.
Galetti commented, “When you look at the qualities that he has, it’s pretty obvious what he’ll bring to Liverpool. Stamina, tenacity, and excellent coverage of the field. I think, therefore, Endo will adapt well and quickly to the pace of the Premier League, similar to how James Milner served the club admirably despite his age.”
In an interview with GiveMeSport, Galetti also revealed Liverpool’s ongoing interest in Thuram but acknowledged the competition for the OGC Nice midfielder.
He stated, “Khephren Thuram is another name on the list. There is also interest from Juventus for the French midfielder. Manu Kone, who is also followed by Borussia Dortmund, represents another profile and is always appreciated by Klopp.”
Currently, Liverpool’s interest in Thuram appears to be in its early stages, with no recent contact or formal bid. Earlier in the transfer window, it was suggested that Nice would require a fee of €60 million (£51 million) to part ways with their star midfielder.
While Thuram possesses versatility, excelling defensively with a high interception rate and displaying skill in successful take-ons, he has predominantly played in a defensive midfield role throughout his career. He has become a key player for Nice over the past two seasons, making a total of 71 appearances in Ligue 1.
Thuram’s attributes make him a suitable candidate for Liverpool, especially given his ability as an “elite ball carrier,” according to journalist Zach Lowy.
His capacity to win the ball high up the pitch aligns with Klopp’s style. However, with Liverpool’s pursuit of Gravenberch gaining momentum, Thuram’s move to Anfield before the transfer deadline seems unlikely, even though he could be a valuable addition to the team.
