VAR RUINED THIS DRAMATIC MATCH!! Having denied the Blues two clear penalties that could have changed the situation, causing the London team to suffer a cruel 1-4 defeat to LFC
Rio Ferdinand insists Chelsea should have had TWO spot-kicks in 4-1 defeat at Liverpool: ‘How has VAR not seen that? Those penalties could have changed the nature of the game’
During Chelsea’s 4-1 loss to Liverpool on Wednesday, Rio Ferdinand claims VAR erred in denying two penalties that could have altered the course of the match.
On Wednesday night, Chelsea was thoroughly defeated by Jurgen Klopp’s team at Anfield, and even Mauricio Pochettino had to concede that the Blues were the superior team that evening.
Nevertheless, Ferdinand asserts that Chelsea was refused two penalties during the Premier League match, which may have altered the course of the match.
Early on, Virgil van Dijk threw a punch at Conor Gallagher, sending the Chelsea player to the ground inside the area. Play was allowed to resume after referee Paul Tierney waved, and any penalty claims were rejected by VAR.
The second incident again included Van Dijk, who clipped Christopher Nkunku inside the penalty area. After reviewing the event again, John Brooks declined to give the Blues a penalty.
Rio Ferdinand claims that VAR erred in not awarding Chelsea two penalties during their 4-1 loss to Liverpool on Wednesday, adding that those decisions may have altered the course of play.
Pochettino maintains that despite losing 4-1, Liverpool was “better in all areas.”
During the commentary, Ally McCoist was heard asking, “Has van Dijk kicked through him?” in reference to the second incident. Yes, he is aware of it!
“He does,” I’ll tell you right away; that’s a penalty. He catches him with his right leg, so in my opinion, that is a penalty. It’s a penalty all day, you see Van Dijk’s contact there. He undoubtedly catches his right leg.
“It’s unbelievable that VAR missed that and didn’t award the penalties,” Ferdinand remarked following the game. This is where VAR is supposed to come in handy.
How they did not consider those two occurrences to be penalties [for Chelsea] after looking at them.
“Those penalties could have altered the course of the game, but I still believe Chelsea was well off it today.”
Following the game, Pochettino was asked about the circumstances and responded, “Of course we were seeing it on the iPad and we were thinking it could be a penalty.” Liverpool was clearly superior than us, even though we had unfortunate circumstances.
