While the transfer market was open, Mauricio Pochettino was unable to secure any of the three players he had hoped to add to bolster important positions

According to Sami Mokbel’s revelation on It’s All Kicking Off, Mauricio Pochettino did not succeed in acquiring any of the three players he sought during the January transfer window.

As they clung to their position in the top half of the standings ahead of Wolves’ game against Manchester United, the Blues lost 4-1 to Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday, proving that they are still far below the top teams in the Premier League.

Since taking over the club in 2022, Todd Boehly has gone on a spending binge, making life difficult for manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has struggled to maximize the potential of his £1 billiоn roster.

While the Argentine had three spots he wаnted to shore up during the January transfer window, Mokbel has shown that Chelsea didn’t sign a single player despite agreeing to loan Armando Broja to Fulham on deadline day.

During the special edition of It’s All Kicking Off that aired on Deadline Day, Mokbel divulged Pochettino’s wishes and the specific areas in which the coach felt his team needed improvement.

“They’re in a state of flux,” Mokbel said when asked by Ian Ladyman about the club’s condition on deadline day. The summer transfer of Mauricio Pochettino left him with little to no control over the team’s signings and recruitment.

I believe his team selections have shown that. He is dissatisfied with his current squad and has experimented with several various combinations and changes. I don’t think that’s the correct way to put it; his current team doesn’t measure up to the ideal he has for it.

When January rolled along, he hoped that he would have more leeway to sign the players he wаnted.

There’s no way Mauricio Pochettino would storm into the boardroom yelling out “X player, X player, X player”; he’s just not that type of manager. Even though he isn’t one to “throw his toys out the pram,” he will provide suggestions—strong suggestions, nonetheless. He was hoping to add a left defender, a goalkeeper, and a center striker to his January transfer target list. Even since we’re only 12 hours or so away from the deadline, he still hasn’t gotten them.

They have invested much in the team and have some talented players, but last night’s game at Anfield was boring to watch. I can see where Pochettino is coming from; he hasn’t had the impact on the team’s roster that he thinks is necessary when it comes to recruiting.

When Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella are out with injuries, Pochettino frequently switches up his defensive lineup by putting center back Levi Colwill in the left back position.

Since Pochettino had previously used Chilwell more offensively this season, he appeared hesitant to start him in defense against Liverpool. He had a rough game and was substituted off at halftime.

In goal, Robert Sanchez has a long-term ιnjury and hasn’t played since taking a knock; nevertheless, Djordje Petrovic has shown great promise as an understudy.

A striker to complement Nicolas Jackson has, however, been on the Blues’ radar for some time.

This season, Armando Broja has made thirteen appearances for the Premier League, but he has only scored once. The club has been willing to let him depart during this transfer window.

Even though Chelsea are in seventh place in Premier League scoring, Raheem Sterling was benched against Liverpool and Jackson has only scored eight goals in 23 games for the club.

Even though they will probably make more spending in the summer, Chelsea will have to make do with their current roster for the remainder of the season if they want any chance of turning around this disappointing campaign.
