Manchester United reportedly wants Chelsea to pay 50 million for a striker

After rumors of a transfer to Manchester United surfaced, Lille attacker Jonathan David is supposedly being pursued by Chelsea.

In his 4.5 years at the French club, the Canadian international has scored 69 goals, and he was a key figure in Lille’s 2020–21 Ligue 1 championship run.

David, a 24-year-old, is reportedly of interest to Aston Villa. With 26 goals for Canada, he is the country’s second-highest scorer all-time.

The former Gent forward reportedly has Chelsea on their radar after signing for Lille for €30 million in the summer of 2020, after finishing tied for the league lead in goals scored in the previous season in Belgium’s premier division.

Nicolas Jackson has failed to impress in the Premier League, and Christopher Nkunku has missed the majority of the season due to ιnjury, adding to the Blues’ center-forward wоes.

After re-signing Romelu Lukaku for £98 million two years ago, who failed during his return to West London, Chelsea spent a total of £84 million to get the two players last summer.

It should be noted that David has not exactly been on fire offensively this season, with just six goals in nineteen league games and eleven in twenty-six games across all competitions.

David is now valued at €50 million (£42.7 million) by Transfermarkt, making him a far more inexpensive alternative than someone like Victor Osimhen.

But if Chelsea can hold out until next year at this time, they could be able to arrange a free transfer for him in the summer of 2025, when his present contract with Lille expires.
