With their record-breaking victory over Middlesbrough, Chelsea have secured a spot in the Carabao Cup final

In a record-setting performance on Tuesday, Chelsea advanced to the Carabao Cup final with a 6-0 thrashing of Middlesbrough.

Chelsea could not afford to make a mistake in Tuesday night’s second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final match against Middlesbrough, since they had lost the first leg.

And a six-goal thrashing—four in the first half alone—over the Championship side was precisely the punishment they merited.

The trip down to London for Boro fans started with an own goal by Jonny Howson, and they will have a long night ahead of them.

The Blues took a commanding lead on aggregate thanks to two goals in quick succession from Axel Disasi and Enzo Fernandez.

And Cole Palmer scored the game-winning goal before halftime by taking advantage of some stunning defense.

Jim Proudfoot, a pundit on talkSPORT, was speechless upon seeing what happened.

This isn’t simply an elimination cup; the way things have gone downhill for them borders on shame, he added on broadcast.

“With every attempt, Chelsea seems to find a way to score.”

“You feel sorry for Michael Carrick at the moment, his team have found it very, very difficult in this game,” added Stuart Pearce, a former boss of Manchester City who spoke alongside him.

In the second half, Chelsea continued their relentless pressure, with Palmer scoring his second goal, Noni Madueke cutting in from the right side to slot in, and a defender smashing the ball into the top corner of the net.

However, the visiting fans had reason to celebrate when Morgan Rogers, who is linked to Aston Villa, scored a consolation goal for Middlesbrough in the waning minutes of the match.

This 6-1 triumph sets a new Carabao Cup record and is the largest second-leg triumph in a League Cup semi-final since Liverpool’s 5-0 triumph over Crystal Palace in 2001.

As they sought to take an unexpecteԀ lead in west London, Middlesbrough began the encounter appearing in excellent condition.

However, after Chelsea calmed their jitters, they dominated play and the scoreboard.

In his first game back from an ιnjury that sidelined him for four months, Ben Chilwell wasted no time getting the ball into the box and setting up Raheem Sterling for a cross, which Howson headed in after Armando Broja had touched it.

After that, with acres of room in the box, Fernandez was found to double the lead and put Chelsea ahead in the tie.

Sterling set up Disasi to score the third goal after winning the ball in the middle of the field. Palmer then made it four after steаling the ball from the Boro defense.

Chelsea will now face either Liverpool or Fulham in the Carabao Cup final on February 25.

The other semi-final will go ahead on Wednesday night at Craven Cottage with Liverpool 2-1 up.
